Pinnacle - a fan remake of the 1986 classic, The Sentinel
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Pinnacle is a fan-made remake of the 1986 classic, The Sentinel (called The Sentry in the US). Originally published by Geoff Crammond and Firebird software for the BBC Micro, ZX Specrum and Commodore 64. The Sentinel was one of the very first games to use solid 3D graphics on 8-bit home computers.
In Pinnacle, you control a telepathic robot, called a Synthoid, who's goal is to navigate 10,000 procedurally generated surreal landscapes and defeat the Sentinel of each. The Synthoid is unable move but instead absorbs energy, stacks boulders and transfers its consciousness between clones, gaining altitude. The goal is to reach a higher altitude than the Sentinel in order to absorb it and move on to a new landscape.
Avoid the Sentinel's gaze or it will drain your energy, redistributing it across the landscape in the form of newborn trees, ultimately killing you.
As the game progresses, the landscapes get harder to navigate and the Sentinel is assisted by additional Sentries.
Can you conquer all 10,000 landscapes?

Congratulations on this excellent and brilliant version of the best 8-bit game in history. You have created it with outstanding good taste, perfectly capturing the essence of the original. Thank you very much for such superb work.
Excellent remake, exactly in art style and mood I dreamed about original Sentinel. Just there is few fundamental issues. First is you can stuck Sentinel rotation by placing synthoid in way that he can see just head and not square and move to another synthoid, leave former behind. Than Sentinel stops it's rotation and looks on empty shell synthoid you left indefinitely. In original game if he can't absorb empty shell synthoid, he will ignore it and rotate normaly.
Same happens when Sentinel sees just player's head is unable to place meanie, he will continue rotate normally.
Second is about meanies. They do not work at all (no teleportation even it can see my sqare clrearly), and original game mechanic is if meanie cannot see square with player, after full revolution it change into tree and Sentinel will resume rotation normaly.
Last issue is random crashing when returning to main menu or restarting level.
This is a fantastic remake of Sentinel. Very faithful to the BBC Micro version I played. The only thing I would quibble about is that in the original, The Sentinel does not start rotating until you start absorbing or expending energy, so it gives you a chance to view your surroundings. At the moment, you have act straightaway. Any chance of updating the game to behave like the original? Thanks, Paul
Very cool remake! Sensitive updates to the controls, love it.
Did you use the original algorithm to create the levels?
What happens if it doesn't work? I couldn't get anywhere with this and the sentinel was turning quickly.

this game is awesome!! the graphics are very beautiful, the gameplay is interesting (although I understand that this is the legacy of the original), and I also liked the atmosphere. surprisingly, it is quite creepy
